HWN #023: 5 Reasons Parents Need to Prioritize Their Fitness

Jan 27, 2024

Parenting pulls us in a lot of directions.

Add into it the fact that most of us have to also work a full time job and it feels like we have two different full time jobs that take up all of our time.

Yet there is one other job that we all have...taking care of ourselves

As a parent there is nothing selfish about finding the time to make your health and fitness a priority. As a matter of fact, not finding time to make your health and fitness a priority is selfish.

So today, I am sharing with you 5 reasons why you have to make time for your health in 2024.

Let's jump in!

5 Reasons Parents Need to Prioritize Their Fitness

  1. Role modeling
  2. Stress reduction
  3. Quality family time
  4. Increased energy levels
  5. Improved health outcomes

1. Role Modeling

We’ve all heard the saying “monkey see, monkey do.” There is no truer place we see this than in parenting.

Parents serve as powerful role models for their children.

Prioritizing fitness sends a positive message about the importance of a healthy lifestyle. Children are more likely to adopt healthy habits when they see their parents actively engaging in fitness activities.

And we all want our children to grow up and live long and healthy lives.

2. Stress Reduction

Parenting often comes with its fair share of stress.

And by a fair share, I mean a ton!

Regular physical activity is known to reduce stress and improve mental health.

By prioritizing fitness, parents can better manage the challenges that come with raising a family.

3. Quality Family Time

Incorporating fitness activities into family routines creates opportunities for quality time together.

Whether it's going for a family hike, playing sports, or engaging in group fitness activities, these shared experiences not only promote physical health but also strengthen family bonds.

4. Increased Energy Levels

Ask any parent and they will tell you that parenthood can be demanding, both physically and mentally.

Regular exercise helps boost energy levels, allowing parents to keep up with the demands of parenting. Increased energy can positively impact mood and overall well-being.

5. Improved Health Outcomes

Mix up the format of your workouts.

For instance, try circuit training, high-intensity interval training (HIIT), every minute on the minute, or even something else.

Doing so will challenge you both from a strength and a cardiovascular standpoint that you are not use to.

In Summary

Overall, prioritizing fitness as a parent not only benefits individual well-being but also sets a foundation for a healthier and more active family lifestyle.

And we all want a healthy family that is around for a long time enjoying life together.

In health,

Craig
